Reed Crandall and Ray Bradbury - The October Game

Reed Crandall's graphic adaptation of Ray Bradbury's eminently creepy short story The October Game appeared in Vol. 1 #9 of EC Comics now legendary (but tragically short lived) Shock Suspenstories in 1953. EC Comics were consistently producing a caliber of graphic work in the comics medium that totally unheard of at that time. EC comics are often defined by their wordy/text centric layout with  large blocks of text at the top of each panel, something here that works excellently to showcase  the words of Ray Bradbury

Noriyoshi Ohrai

Noriyoshi Ohrai (1935-) is perhaps best known for his copious amount of illustration work for the Star Wars and Godzilla franchises in Japan, but he has produced an incredible range of illustration and painting throughout his career that is less well known. Many of the pieces below adorned the covers of Japanese edition Sci-Fi and Horror novels. I wish I knew which ones in all cases but there is an awesome edition of Alfred Bester's classic Tiger! Tiger! (The Stars my Destination) that Ohrai created the cover art for below that I'd love to get my hands on.

NASA - 1970s Space Colony Art

In the 1970′s the Princeton physicist Gerard O’Neill with the help of NASA Ames Research Center and Stanford University held a series of space colony summer studies which explored the possibilities of humans living in giant orbiting spaceships. Colonies housing about 10,000 people were designed and a number of artistic renderings of the concepts were made.
